Featuring CHELLE! and Friends and CHELLE'S Juke Joint! Celebrated joyously in Michelle Jacques’ signature New Orleans Big Band style, Daughters of the Delta is an anthology that honors African American women composers and musicians hailing from Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Seminal figures whose body of work became the backdrop to the Great Migration as Black people moved out of the South during the Jim Crow era. This children’s program has two shows: 11-11:30am with a repeat show 12:15-12:45pm. FREE

Led by New Orleans-native Michelle Jacques, a soul-steeped vocalist with a big, bold voice, Chelle! & Friends bring to the Gardens a family-friendly taste of the Crescent City, the cradle of so much essential American music. Chelle! & Friends is made up of some of the most distinguished and accomplished musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Rhonda Crane and Bryan Dyer on vocals and percussion, Donna Viscuso on saxophone, Eric Swinderman on guitar, Kevin Scott on bass and Michaelle Goerlitz on drums. Chelle! & Friends deliver music that’s steeped in the cadences of gospel and animated by the earthy grooves of R&B and the Caribbean. Join the party, move your feet, sing along and join a Mardi Gras parade!

San Francisco International Arts Festival will present a combination live in-person and livestream program that culminates in a two-day outdoor program to take place at the Fort Mason Center (on the weekend of October 23-24). The weekend will feature over 30 dance, theatre and music ensembles and companies in more than two dozen separate concerts. Bring a blanket or low chair.

Tickets available for single concerts and Festival Passes for multiple shows.

The 2021 program celebrates the (cautious and health-conscious) reopening of San Francisco’s performing arts industry and seeks to reconnect individual artists with their audiences in a live performance setting. The program will follow Federal Health and Safety guidelines (attendees must be vaccinated/tested negative and wear face coverings).

"Hey Chelle, I want to let you know what a fine time we all had checkin' out your show at La Pena last night. As a part-time New Orleans resident (I spend about 1/3 of the year down there and 2/3 in Oakland), and a long-time New Orleans music enthusiast (I've written a book, any number of magazine articles, and I had a long-running show on KPFA a couple of decades ago) I thought I was on top of all important manifestations of New Orleans funk in the Bay Area, but clearly I was wrong about that since I had never known about you before last night. I was really impressed with your set list; a great mix of popular tunes and NOLA obscurities.

Anyway, thanks again for a down-home funky time. Best live music I've heard in months."
